NOLA Travel Writers

I’ve traveled—and written—twice with Denise Altobello, and was delighted to learn that she will be a teaching a travel writing seminar for middle-schoolers next summer. If you know any 7th, 8th, or 9th graders who might be interested, please pass this information along; I ‘m sure it will be an excellent workshop! Knowing Denise, it will also be a big bunch o’ fun—wish I could go, too.
“Join a select group of talented students for an eight-day travel writing workshop, and experience the heart and soul of America’s most interesting city. Twelve t(w)een -entering 7th, 8th and 9th grade- travelers will explore the history, culture and literary heritage of New Orleans as they learn the art and craft of the travel essay. Each participant will work with two published writing instructors to develop original travel stories and photo essays documenting this unique New Orleans experience. Program will include daily group writing and photography workshops, supervised excursions to popular teen tourist destinations, one-on-one consultations with both instructors - Denise Altobello and Jenny Velasquez – service opportunities and evenings devoted to writing and discussions. Each writer may submit two stories for New Orleans: A T(w)een Travelogue, an anthology to be published before December 2009.”
